wedded bliss

The one thing I LOVE about my job is the wonderful people I am privileged to meet.  I also get to be involved in some pretty memorable occassions; weddings, new babies, couples in love. Its a job that is happy, and I am so privileged to be living my dream :) Seldom does a shoot go by that doesn’t have me tear up at some point. Its just who I am. I get pretty emotional.

So, this is especially apparent when I am shooting a wedding. There has never been a wedding that didn’t make me cry the moment I lay my eyes on the beautiful bride for the first time. This is actually pretty funny, because this tends to make the bride tear up…and then makes us both laugh! it sure is an ice breaker and sort of gives us this little womanly bond for the day.

Well, this did not change this past weekend. The moment I saw this lovely woman come down the aisle, you guessed it, I got a knot in my stomach and my eyes swelled (thank god for AutoFocus!).  Sheri looked amazing, and SO happy. It doesnt matter how old you are; be it a first, or second marriage. Being in love is something you just cant hide :)

Enjoy some of my favorite images of the day

cute girls and cute skirts

its that six degrees of seperation thing Im sure; or possibly because Ive lived and worked in Calgary for over 30 years…  I always find it so bizarre how people come in and out of my life.  When I enrolled Jack into preschool this year, it was discovered that my old friend from high school; whom I havent seen in almost 20 years (kay, feeling old now :) had her daughter in the same class as my baby boy.  How cool is that!  So, needless to say Kristen and I have reacquainted and have started down a new path of friendship.

So, where is this going?!  Well, I recently acquired THE most beautiful Pettiskirts as studio props.  I desperately needed some little girls to model them for me….  and Jack, agreeable as he may be, would just NOT to put them on for me!!  hmmm…

Well. as it turns out, Kristens has two lovely little girls, and we happen to live in the same neighborhood!  She graciously agreed to get the girls dolled up and be my models this afternoon. Although the grass looks ‘nice’ it was actually filled with tons o’ thistles.  Poor girls were troupers though.

If you do have a little girl that you want photographed, be sure to mention the Pettiskirts!  They’re for everyone to enjoy, and be photographed in…. even if it does happen to be your little boy… :)

So, isnt it amazing what a little professional hair and make up can do for a girl?  I had the best day yesterday!  My old colleague came to me to do some ’special’ photos as a gift for her husband.  Katie was awesome to work with, very relaxed and a great sense of humour.  We had a lot of laughs, as only 3 women can after a couple glasses of wine.  I say, he’ll be VERY happy when he see’s these little gems.

My friend Celina, whom I met when I photographed her wedding 3 years ago, is an amazingly talented artist. She just came in and took charge of the glamour make over. Like me, she is a young mom who loves the idea of balancing work and home.  So, if you are considering a shoot, please consider Celina to come make you look like a star :)blog09.jpg
